Heroin is a huge drug threat to the state of Rhode Island. Lots of South American heroin is readily available in the state. Southeast Asian heroin also is available, although to a lesser extent. According to TEDS, the number of heroin-related treatment admissions to publicly funded facilities went up from 3,745 in 1997 to 5,040 after 2001.  The amount of heroin-related treatment admissions per 100,000 in population in Rhode Island (568) was considerably higher than the rate nationwide (108) in 2000, the most recent year for which this information is available.

There are many effects of heroin on the family . For example, a family will try to take care of each other, especially when a member of the family has a major problem with such a drug as heroin. But what happens when the heroin addict not only refuses the help from the other family members but appears to go out of their way to hurt and upset them?

Most people in this situation will endeavor to try even harder to get the result they want - which is to stop using heroin.
